Female
Birth-Date:
June 2305
Age:
4 years
Species:
New Moon
Pack:
Wasteland Nomads
Rank:
Alpha
Duty:
Leader
Appearance:
Like any good new moon wolf, Aertal is small and flashy in appearance. Her long, soft coat is a rich red color with sharp white markings to compliment it. She has dark colored ears, but the color change is smooth from the red, giving her a rich dark red-brown top of head. Her tail is tipped. She also has four white paws, with the white going up the insides of her legs to meet up with the white on her stomach that goes up her neck and throat and then only on to about half of her face.
Aertal's face is half white because the blaze on her muzzle leaks into the left half of her face. This marking comes over her icy blue eye, which is blue, not because of genetics, but because of an injury that happened when she was a cub before her eye color was set. This eye is partially blind and it's easy to sneak up on her blindspot. She still, very obviously, has the scar. It is a pink slash from her temple to the right side of her muzzle. She has a small, not very visible scar on her forehead between her eyes. Her other eye is hazel. Her nose is liver-colored.
Aertal's right ear is about half the size of her left ear, but hears just as well as her normal looking ear. The fur around the right ear seems to be random tufts instead of uniform fur, as if the ear itself was left unfinished when she was being formed. It was that way at birth and the small deformity is what Aertal's cubname is based on. On her left ear, she wears a blue feather earring, something that was her mother's. The piercing has left a permanent, but small hole in her ear.
The length of her legs are obscured by the long fur that hangs from her chest, but she does have long legs, true to the characteristics of a New Moon wolf. Her easy movements make her look graceful. However, when she stands still, it's easy to see that she's a bit cowhocked, as her feet turn out. If she wants other wolves to not notice this as much, she will put one hind foot ahead of the other and hide that fact.
Aertal has a husky voice. It makes her sound downright seductive when she needs to be, but usually she sounds rough. To sum up Aertal, she's a imperfect sure. With the scar across her face, one and a half ears, mismatching eyes, and the fact that her hocks want to touch when she stands still, she's anything but the prettiest wolf. However, Aertal carries herself confidently enough that she is also not a hideous monster and to some, may even be attractive.
Skills:
- Speed - Aertal, like most New Moon wolves, is fast.
- Impartial Judge - She's able to make decisions without wrapping herself into them. She does what's fair, even if it's unpopular.
- Bravery (or foolishness) - Aertal can dive headlong into dangerous situations without batting an eye. Her scars can attest to that.
- Leadership - Though she's rude and not as social as most leaders should be, it's hard to anger her and get her emotionally charged and this trait is what makes her an effective Alpha Leader.
Personality:
Aertal has no regards to danger or chance. She charges into situations. She's the sort of wolf who asks questions later. It's in her nature. Half the time, she stuns even herself, looking back on the beautiful mess she's made and wondering to herself How on Earth did I survive that?. Usually though, she can be made to look like a fool, but her merry, optimistic attitude makes it easy to laugh off her mistakes.
Aertal is a rare optimist in the dying world. But, then again, she could see the bright side of a shadow. She is a proud wolf and takes glee in her accomplishments, even when they are small. Such an attitude is slightly grating. Perhaps this stems from her absolute need to be the center of attention. This annoying part of her personality is just a small price to pay for the fact that she makes a good leader for the Wasteland Nomads. Then again, they aren't a close-knit and settled pack, but a pack as restless as she is.
And she is a good leader and there's no doubt about it. There's something about the dash of confidence, the spring in her step, and the fact that she could make it through the worst disasters without fading her grin that definitely qualifies her as the leader that the Wasteland Nomads need. However, like many New Moon wolves, she does have her fair share of problems.
First of all she's incredibly narcissistic. The fact that she has become Alpha of the Wasteland Nomads only adds fuel to the fire. She's highly inconsiderate though never intends to be. Her high rank has left it so that most of the time, wolves let her be as blunt as she usually is.
Aertal has never been the sort of wolf to be careful about her words. This, the fact that she thinks highly of herself, and the fact that she gets easily bored lends to the reality that she does very poorly in relationships. It's just as well though. The reason she makes a good leader is because she doesn't get too caught up in the emotional aspects of decision-making.
In fact, she can be seen as rather startlingly joyful in terms of violence. She has a certain glee when she gets a chance to practice her feral side. It's mostly seen in her cruelty during hunts and battles. She isn't afraid of fighting dirty and has a massive interest in seeing just how sick and sadistically she can take down something. Oh, what fun times.
History:
Born in the June 2306, Aertal was the only female of the litter. Before, her birth, the most of the Nomads had run ahead toward the Stump Forest to follow the a migration of caribou, leaving the Alpha family, and a small core group of wolves in one of the Roseburr barns. The week the Hunters and most of the pack were gone, her mother whelped her and her siblings. Two pups of the five were so severely deformed that they died the same day they were born, but the half eared female and her two strong brothers survived easily under the watchful eye of her mother and the pack's Midwife.
After her birth, Aertal's father sent one of the Caregivers to fetch the Astrologer. He finally came around two days later and was ordered to stick around until the pups were ready to have their fortunes told. When the time came around, Aertal was predicted to be trouble, but also a wolf her mother and father were to be proud of. They looked at the little spitfire, as full of personality and zest at that young age as she would be when she grew up and looked at each other with doubt. They named their daughter Halfear.
Little Halfear was the pain in the neck. You couldn't just tell her that something was dangerous because that served as an invitation for her to try it out. Most of what she learned, she experienced firsthand. Halfear was the sort of cub that wanted to grow up fast. She always nosed into what the adults were doing and tried to help out, though usually this got her hurt or was just another fail in a long string of fails.
Her first interest was in Fishing. But she grew quickly bored of that. Slapping at the water was a yawnfest and she wasn't as great a swimmer as all the other wolves due to the fact that her feet pointed out. It made her splash around a lot more. She switched to Hunting. But after getting swiped in the face by a wolf because she got herself in the way, she sent to the Apothecary to save her eye. The scar is still big and ugly, but she didn't lose all the sight in that eye, luckily. Then, her mother ordered that she stop trying to grow up so quickly.
So, Aertal took to being a daredevil. This cultivated her watch me! sort of personality. And her mother and father simply sighed. They wondered why the Astrologer was so far off when it came to their daughter. Luckily, their sons were easier to handle. And one of them seemed to be shaping up to be the next Alpha!
Aertal became a soldier. She hovered in around the Theta rank because she just gave the attitude that they dreaded in soldiers. You aren't supposed to particularly enjoy beating another wolf into a pulp. And if you did, you weren't supposed to brag about it. She was top of the Thetas, but her mother, an Alpha Soldier (being mate of the Alpha Leader), refused to let Aertal be promoted due to the fact that she was too childish, self-centered, and foolish to make a good soldier.
Aertal's brother became an Alpha Leader around the time she turned two, and her mother was demoted to the comfortable rank of Gamma Soldier because of her age and how much she helped the pack--she really deserved the honor. Anyways, Aertal's brother as a leader was harsh, stringent, was emotionally invested with every wolf in the pack and was very into how to make the pack look good and keep himself looking like a pristine, kind litter, which looked good on paper, but was terrible the way it was executed. Aertal began helping him. Her down-to-earth, but also frank approach made for a better leadership style for the Nomads. She jumped from Theta Soldier to Beta Advisor in a few months. At the age of three, her brother finally forfeited the Alpha Leader rank and duty to her.
