The smell of life here was strong, the heart beat of this mountain drummed, ever so quietly. Life was teeming here, small insects loped across leaves and tumbled through bushes. Birds soared, singing their morning songs, as if greeting the newcomer. Trees grew tall at the base of the jagged cliffs, you could see the tops of them, as you stand on the very top of the cliff. Koda hadn’t come here to appreciate the life it had preserved, he was in search of a hunting ground in which he could find himself a meal, and a cool drink of water. Koda didn’t waste his time tracking anything, we was in search of a heaven in which he would settle a little away from his pack, to hunt and live. Pack life was most pleasing to him, but every once in a while he needed a place for himself, to calm and rejuvenate his nerves. Koda had taught himself to be an excellent tracker, and that’s where he would start. He would track down the life here, it would surely lead him to something worthy of his attention and presence. Koda bent his face to the ground, his nose just a centimeter away from the litter of the thin forest ground. He growled pleasure, yes this would be a wonderful place to resign for a little while. He would be alone here, he couldn’t detect a single other canine. He liked this, it comforted him to know that he was away from those of his kind, but he wouldn’t let his back down. Koda despised of the ways in which wolves were, all of them were so…bloodthirsty, lunatics. He didn’t feel attachment to the pack and other wolves as they did. However, the wildlife he hunted he felt a great connection with. The hunter and the hunted, with a great connection. That was how it was suppose to be. Unlike other wolves, Koda looked upon his prey was something to cherish, not to push fear into their hearts. He didn’t use his advantages of being a wolf to scare his prey as others did. Others stated their role as dominate, Koda did no such thing. To him, his prey and those who hunted him were his equals. He just happened to hunt them, but he didn’t see this as making his in anyway better than those that he hunted. Koda’s nose was picking up the slight smell of…yes, a snake. The best part? It wasn’t venomous. He smiled, it was one of those rare times when Koda was feeling at peace, detached from his fellow wolf, alone. Surely nothing could ruin this. Koda trotted on, in search of this snake. Koda was rather fond of the rare taste of snake, usually only getting to eat it a couple times a year, seeing as few non-venomous snakes occupied the swamp. Yes, he liked this place very, very much. Koda knew that he couldn’t leave the pack for more than a couple days at a time, he planned on leaving for three days of every month to escape here. No, wait. Their was something drifting slowly through the air. This was a true pleasure, he smelled the dusky smell of Elk. Yes, he liked this place even more now. Without any time to lose, he followed the snakes trail, the Elks trail was slightly skewed from the snakes, but wherever their were two animals this rare to his nostrils, there had to be a good hunting ground. He set off, the smell was growing stronger now, but somehow he sensed that this snake was smaller, its marks that it left in the patches of dirt were somewhat misplaced, this could be the work of an dieing or hurt snake. This just added to his joy. Now, the trail was getting to were the snake was resigning. The snake had wrapped itself around a tree, to far for him to reach, but this was no problem, the snake was maimed badly, possibly dieing, this would make a good entrée to that Elk he would track later. He sat under the tree, eying the snake, no doubt it knew what was to happen, it knew it was dying, but it seemed so stable. It took him a long time to realize that he had found a small valley between to cliffs, teeming with large life, he could see a small doe trotting through the field, totally unaware of his presence. Koda didn’t move, he liked the taste of snake more than a small doe. He looked up, the snake was starting to unweave its grip on the tree. Koda couldn’t identify what had does this to the snake, but he did know that the snake was hanging on my a limb. He stared up at it patiently. He could wait all day.

The rusty coated she-wolf trotted nervously through the land, her amber eyes and long ears constantly flicking, alert for any kind of danger. Aria Riversong hated being in strange lands like this. She wanted to back in the Wasteland Nomad pack lands. She felt safest there on the farm in her little office room that had walls lined with books. Aria was not a special wolf in the physical sense, for he was awkward and not even that pretty. Her ears were too long, her eyes small, she just looked like a mess. Nor was she special in the personality department. She was often nervous and worried, constantly thinking that bad things were going to happen to her or those around her. She had several irrational fears, one of which was being out in open, strange lands such as this one. What did make Aria special was her mind and unique ability. Aria Riversong was the only wolf in the land who could read, and even write fluent English. Now she had gone beyond that and was teaching herself what the humans called Spanish and French. Who knows, there could be a wolf out there who speaks it. She did not like to brag, but she knew she had more knowledge about the natural world than probably any wolf in the land, for she had the magic of books.
Aria Riversong had come out here today to collect a book that a wandering friend of hers had found in a far away land. Once word got out that this loner did have the book, Aria went to go get it herself, even if it did make her nervous and skittery. The book in question was a work of human fiction that Aria did not have in her extensive collection at home; Don Quixote. Aria had always read non-fiction books until recently when she realized the humans had created stories about different people and all these different things. Some stories were wonderful fantasy tails, while others were mysteries. Aria loved them all. She even found out that humans had written fictional stories about wolves. Those were her favourites. She often wondered how they got things so right sometimes for not being of her own species.
She could not wait to get home and start her new book. She had read about Don Quixote in another book and decided that it was time she read the said book. When she realised her library did not have it, she went to several extreme measures to get this book, including making her friend memorize what letters on the cover looked like. Aria Riversong truly was a strange girl, and she was just fine with that.
Aria had her eyes closed and was humming to herself as she trotted along the dusty earth. It was only when she opened her eyes that she saw she was about to collide into a wolf who was looking up at a nearby tree. Aria skidded to an ungraceful stop and dropped her book while half falling over. She quickly scrambled to her feet, her wide eyes looking at the strange male in slight fear. "Ss..sss..sorry." she stammered out, shaking off her coat. "I didn't see you there, I don't mean any harm." she said rather quickly. It was only then that the she-wolf noticed that her copy of Don Quixote had fallen almost into the paws of the strange wolf. She stared at it as she made a slight gulping noise. Could this day get any worse?

The sun stood tall over the valley, sunlight oozed. However, Koda sat in the shadow of the great oak tree, untouched by the sun’s rays. He waited patiently for the snake to lose its energy, and fall into his jaws. “Ego vadum exspecto.” He snarled. I shall wait. “quod vos mos cado.” He looked up at the snake once more, he knew he didn’t understand Latin, but it didn’t matter to Koda. and you shall fall He would wait. Koda refused to force the snake down, it would only show his lack of self-disposure. He let his ears pick up the constant ongoing sounds of the forest, he picked something up, something he wanted to get away from. Another canine. A female to be exact, and she was carrying a book in between her jaws. The clumsy female was trotting along, with her eyes closed completely unaware of his presence. She didn’t look like much. Before he could warn the female, she bumped into him, knocking him from his feet, startling him and causing him to slam into the tree, the snake fell, landing in front of the female. The book she carried in her jaws lay between his paws. He snarled fiercely. “ Watch it.” He growled fiercly, it was clear that the female feared him, it was written across her face. She knew this female to be Aria Riversong, the one who owned the books. As Beta Koda knew of all the pack members, he was found Aria curious, but a waste of his time. She spent more time with her nose in her books, living in a fantasy world, instead of living her life. It was surprising to see this female so far away from her home, Aria didn’t seem like the type to travel. “I came here for peace, not to be bothered by pack members.” He bared his teeth once more, kicking her book to the side, “ You should learn to hide your fear, it is plainly written on your face.” He laughed, this poor female. All alone in a world she didn’t understand. He didn’t have time to feel a pang of pity. “ Take your book, and leave.” He commanded. His attention now turned back to the snake that he found, laying in under her nose. He barked at her fiercely. “ Give me back, what is rightfully mine.” He motioned to the snake, he didn’t have any intention of sharing with this female, who lived in her books. He turned back to the snake, he inched towards her, only centimeters from his face, he looked into her eyes. Then quickly, he ducked out, snatching his snake and trotting off. Stupid female, what business did she have here? He growled, as he trotted away from her. He was in search of a small place to make a den. He decided, this would be a perfect place to live three days out of every month. It didn’t take him long to find a large bolder, in which was hidden under a wall of dirt, it laid on the shore of the small lake that ran through the valley. It wouldn’t take long to dig his way though, making himself a small den. He would start after he ate, and took a drink. He quickly tore at the snakes scales, skinning it with ease. He scoped it up in his mouth, and pushed it under the water of the lake, washing it off its remaining skin and scales. He growled happily, the snake was turning out nicely, he had been careful not to puncture the muscles with his teeth, it would make a perfect clean meal. After he washed it he, again scoped it up into his jaws, laying on his belly and tearing at the soft, clean meat. Koda loved the taste of fresh snake, he swallowed the last of the small snake. He rolled over onto his belly and crawled towards the water, dunking his head under it, and washing away the little amount of blood that smeared his muzzle.
OCC- Erm. Koda isn’t going to be nice, Aria’s pissed him off. XD Words- 698

Aria visibly slunk back as the male's harsh words hit her ears. There was no need for this. It was all a mistake. Then again Aria was not surprised at his behaviour. Wolves like him were the reason that she preferred just to stay with her books on the farm. She could not stand to put up with these mean, cocky wolves, especially the males, who thought the knew everything and sat on top of the world. They were the kind who would take advantage of someone weaker than themselves. Her books were so much better. She could go off into many different worlds and not have to worry about the idiots in hers. She would rather read about these idiots. She just wished that she had some of the courage and boldness that the characters in her stories had. She aspired to be like them, but somehow she knew that would never happen. Aria Riversong was a timid Astrologer who kept to herself and was afraid of the world.
The male then started talking about how he came here to get away from the pack and the wolves who resided in the pack lands. If Aria would have had enough spunk she would have told him that she was oh so sorry for ruining his perfect day and happy little life, but she remained silent with her tail between her legs. She had seen this wolf around her pack lands but she knew nothing about him, not even his name. Aria rarely tried to connect with her pack members unless they came to her first. This wolf was obviously not the type to come to little Aria for anything.
How she wished she could just hide her fear. At least she had the capability to feel other things beside anger like this wolf. Her first time meeting him and all she could see was irritation and anger. For being so disconnected from other wolves, she sure was observant on their body language, feelings, and emotions. "Whats so wrong with showing how I feel?" she asked, raising her head again. Where did that come from? Aria almost felt as if she did not say her own words. Interesting. So what if she was slightly afraid, she could just as easily be happy and show it. Oh wait, she forgot that this self-centered male had to put on his macho tough guy act. Showing emotion was a major weakness to wolves like him.
Her amber eyes darted to the book between his paws as he told her to take it and leave. She stared at him for a moment, expecting him to at least move it away from his paws. No such luck. She gulped and took a step forward. This is stupid Aria! He hasn't even moved the book and he's telling you to get it. Right under him. He could grab you with his strong jaws. You could just be an amusement toy for him. she thought. Her paranoia always seemed to take over in times like this.
Just as she was about to move closer to grab her book and run, the male told her to give him back what was his. Now Aria was honestly confused, for she had not even noticed the snake on the ground. She was too busy with thinking how to grab her book and run. Before she knew it the male was only centimeters away from her own face. Aria froze with fear. Told you! her mind taunted as she shut her eyes, waiting for what ever was to come. Next thing that happened honestly surprised the red wolf. The male grabbed what appeared to be a snake and trotted off.
Aria quickly ran over and grabbed her book, setting it gently down on a rock near her. It was so dirty. She frowned and began to nose through the pages, cleaning off as much dirt as she could. As she flipped through she couldn't help but to read some of the passages. As she read on, she could not help but to smile at the silly, stupid things the characters in the book did. Jousting with windmills? That was the craziest thing. Who in their right mind would do that. Someone who has no fear and is slightly insane. Someone who is not afraid of failure. Someone who can do something beside hide themselves away. her mind answered for her. That was what changed Aria a bit. Why couldn't she be more like that? She was less of an idiot than this Don Quixote fellow and surely if she were to be a bit braver she could accomplish something. With her mind set, Aria snatched up her book and trotted after the male she had encountered only minutes prior.
The she-wolf halted when she saw him in the distance, washing himself in the water. Aria's new-found courage suddenly faltered. What was she going to do when she saw him again anyway? There was nothing to be done. She gripped her book tighter and looked around for any escape route. No. She must stay. The she-wolf took several strides forward before faltering again. This was just stupidity. Just as she was about to turn around and leave, she saw him bring his head up and feared that he spotted her.
