So, I used to have this forum that was about three wolf packs in a national park. I had an idea for it, but the site never really took off, so I decided to save it.
I think it could work really well for WfMN, especially when we get more members (I'm gonna start advertising more.) Anyway, this is the idea:
A Howling is specific time in the year in which all the packs meet for a large game hunt, and also discuss what is going on in each others packs. I know, this sounds a lot like Gatherings for the Warrior Cats, but it's different! Instead of there being a "truce" at a Howling, basically anything goes. Wolves may fight with other wolves, but the fights are usually kept controlled by the alphas or other high ranking wolves, and usually only involve two wolves. Most of these fights are just tests of strength, but sometimes they are used to solve disputes. Also, there are hunting and fishing contests, and wolves that catch the biggest prey are awarded with praise from all of the packs.
As for how often Howlings happen, this is the way I see it. There is one set for the Fall months, one for Spring, and one for Summer. The one set in Summer is called The Great Howling, and it is called so because even loners and other non-pack wolves are invited. Summer is the best time for a Great Howling because of the abundancy of prey.
A Howling lasts for about a week, and word of a Howling is spread by selected pack members. They spread the word by, well, "howling." Everyone is invited to a Howling, but generally the alphas of the packs will select a few individuals to stay behind and watch the pack territory and pups as well. Not everyone is expected to attend, anyway. It is an event that is supposed to be fun and competitive, but also bring back a large amount of fresh kill for each pack.
Like I said, this could be a really fun idea, especially with a lot of people involved. Let me know what you think!
