Stareye walked with her nose to the ground, a two colored eye looking up to make sure kept to ensure she didn't run into something. Though their sent was long gone from the female's memory, she still followed the scents of others, knowing if she could look upon them, she would tell it was her family or not. The mixed body of fur made of the colors of reddish-orange and white variants, as the white face remained down as she walked quietly, her light weight aiding her in the venture. She could tell the scent was old, to an extent. It was only half the day old, and she still she followed it. It could be her brothers, maybe even her sister. The She missed them so dearly, being with her ever caring sister and her two rambunctious brothers. Where the two sisters made up in their care, the brothers made up in their protectiveness. But Vacence feels she should of made a stand that night, but she didn't regret not make a stand at all. The group of the four were out number and scattering was the only means of survival. And though it meant their separation, and her searching the ends of the earth till the day her long legs could no longer carry her and dies. The young female was prepared to die in her search, in which it meant never setting with a pack, find a love, things she's lived with out now with much ease. The female smiled as she began to hum quiet melody to herself, so quiet it only met her ears.

The Clearlake Fisher had taken to wandering the unclaimed lands, looking for a new source of food. He had heard that this area had small ponds and brooks that were highly populated with a variety of fish, some which could not be found in Clearlake. Today had been rather slow day in the pack lands, so Conrad had decided to wander around for a bit. He hit up one of the small ponds, catching nothing more than a strange breed of blue gill that did not even taste that great. Perhaps these claims of good fish that he had heard were nothing more than mere lies to make the other Fishers seem like hot-shots. Conrad would not doubt other wolves doing something like that. They were so full of themselves sometimes it was unbelievable. All they ever wanted to do was brag about this, brag about that. It was enough to make Conrad heave.
Conrad Dragonheart was currently on a mission to scout out the inhabitants of a small brook that ran through the Felling Cliffs area. He knew for sure that some good creatures lived here, seeing as he had fished in this particular spot before. As the black and white wolf plunged his head into the water, he quickly caught a red trout, swiftly tossing it onto the earth near him. That was almost too easy. Conrad frowned as he quickly clubbed the fish with his paw, instantaneously killing the creature. That really was too easy.
Just as he was about to plunge his head into the water once again, he detected some movement behind him. The wolf quickly jumped around, growling at the approaching female. What the hell was she doing here? come to take his spot, his kill? This is why he was always annoyed with other Fishers. They just thought they could waltz in and take over another's work, claiming it (and the fame) for their own. Narcissistic bastards, the lot of them. Of course, Conrad just assumed this female was a Fisher looking for a spot on this river. He let out an annoyed sigh and said "So which group sent you then? Better not be that damned K'rmell from the Nomads, always thinkin' that his Fishers are better than everyone else." Conrad spat, glaring at her. "You know what? I really don't care. This is my area and I'm not sharing with one of you fishers. Can't you find the time to get your lazy arses up and find your own damned spots?" Vacence had came upon another wolf, fishing in some of many pools along the cliffs, watching him only for a moment so she could move on to continue her never ending search. "Um... Excuse me, but I'm not a fisher. I'm just passing by. And I'm in no pack. I'm sorry for passing by." She said in her quiet tone, her last sentence dripping with sarcasm. It was unusual to get Vacence to use sarcasm like that, even rare. She then looked at the wolf, seeing his catch, rolling her eyes at him. That was all he was defending. A red trout. She sighed, shaking her head at him. She wasn't interested in having it, though the few field mice she found to snack on wasn't much to her stomach. She turned and started again on her path, not worried about the wolf now, as she began to quietly hum her melody once more.

Conrad was a bit relieved when the female said that she was not a fisher. That made him lighten up immensely. Those other fishers always made him a bit nervous. It was not the sort of unease that came from the fear that his skills could not match their own, but it was from the fear that they would gang up on him like last time and take all his food while leaving him injured. This had happened more than once, and, quite frankly, it pissed Conrad off. He did not want to start a war with any pack, so he just stayed angry at their fishers.
Speaking of packs, this she-wolf also said that she was not from a pack. She must be one of the loners who calls these lands home. As Conrad watched her leave, ignoring her sarcasm, he got the strange feeling that she was determined to find something. Before she got too far away Conrad asked "Are you looking for something?" His voice was not exactly pleasant, nor was it angry. It was laced with a bit of annoyance, as well as a hint of genuine curiosity.

Stareye glanced at the water. That wasn't her place. She was on the land to much to not be a hunter, if she was to be anything at all. But she wasn't in a pack. She didn't think of a pack as family. She had a missing family, not a need for a family like most loners were. She glanced at the wolf who now asked her if she was looking for something. Though the question didn't bother her in it's common occurrence of being broght to her attention in some form or phrase, but it seems as much as it is asked of her, the whole population of wolves would know she was looking for her family. Wouldn't that make things easier. But tones of voice were all different when that voiced the question, in a way. They always seemed to contain curiosity of any kind. But the difference here in the tone this other wolf use toward her. Annoyance, maybe? She couldn't help but think if she bothered him that much he wouldn't have asked and left her go. But she didn't let it eat at her. She gave slight smile before she spoke. "Well, it's nothing that would seem import as is does to me. I'm looking for my siblings I was separated from about two years ago. I've been looking for them everywhere." She spoke in her soft tone, not voicing out she even thought of leaving Estyion if she had no luck find them. She knew Estyion as the only place to survive. But she thought maybe they ventured out that way, probably lost from the chase of the ambush after them mainly, seeing as she was the only one that took off in the opposite direction than them. She gave a stiff smile now, thinking of her family as she tried to figure out why she took off the other direction than them.

Conrad remained silent as the she-wolf spoke, her soft vocals bringing a light feel to the shadow-darkened trees below the cliffs. He always found it a bit surprising that wolves with kind voices like this got anywhere in the world. He had learned as a young pup that acting and speaking like this would not get him anywhere in life. Of course, that probably had to do with the family he was raised with, the family he despised but once they were gone he realized that he might have loved them now knowing they would never come back.
Speaking of family, the she-wolf said that she was in search of her own family who had been separated from her a couple years ago. "I've lost family myself so I can sympathize with you." Conrad said with a slight nod of his head. Two years was a very long time, especially in Estysion. The land could only be so big and this she-wolf was bound to run into their scents sometime. In Conrad's mind, her family was probably dead and she was going on a fruitless search.
"Where did you see them last?" he asked her, wanting to know where she lost track of her family. Conrad's voice was genuine now, honestly wanting to talk for some reason, but because of his normal demeanor his somewhat nasally tone remained tainted with slight annoyance.

Vacence nodded to him as he spoke, listening to him carefully to what little bit he said. Many, she knew, could sympathize with her. Even on her quiet little journey, she's not even that naive to the dangers of Estysion. If it wasn't the wolves, it's mother natures works to somehow get you ill, the ground to fall beneath your feet, or some method to plan your demise. But still, she didn't understand why it should be so dangerous. She relax a bit more, lowering her haunches to the ground. She turned her head in thought as he asked where she last seen them. It would seem that wolf her age would forget where something happened a few years ago. But it was a miracle she was alive. An ambush attack on a random small group of wolves, siblings even, was still odd. She knew her brothers and sister didn't do anything wrong. Random attack. And she was sure she didn't either. And if they did, they couldn't have know. They never lived in a pack itself, never occurred to them at the time that they could of done anything wrong. She let out a sigh as it occurred to her now, she doesn't remember the actually, exact location. Just that it was the edge of Estysion. "I'm not sure exactly. The ambush attack I am sure set all of us in a state of panic and made us forget our directions. But I know it was along the edges of Estysion. We were all so young then.We had just literally decided it was time to leave our mother. We don't know anything but her and ourselves. That's why we wanted to stick together."
She finished speaking, head still turned. Her bi-colored eyes revealed that she was somewhere in her mind. Her thoughts continued to try and figured out what caused that night. But she shook her head. She couldn't remain in thought around another, even if he seem to show enough kindness to listen to her. Her failure in alertness caused problems a few years ago. Now was not exception. She turned back to him, though the expression on her face reminded the same. A stiffened smile that didn't want to fade. It was hard talking of her only family because all possibles ran through her head. Not when she searched for them, but when she spoke of them did it seem to affect the usually happy wolf.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Conrad remained silent as the she-wolf told her sob story. Of course. It was always the same with wolves like her; they were so distraught because of lost family members. At least she had something to cry over losing. She said they had been young, naive things that had only recently gone off on their own, yet they still stuck together in their own little pack. One day while they were out they had been ambushed and they scattered, not able to find one another after the danger was no longer a threat. How stupid of them to separate. If there was one thing Conrad knew, it was never leave your partner. Yes, they may have been young and not had time to think, but that was a rash decision that changed their lives forever.
The stupidity of other wolves never ceased to amaze Conrad. He could just not fathom as to how some wolves could think. There were times of panic in which the mind stopped thinking rationally, such as with this she-wolf, but choices made on the spot could be smart or have some level of intelligence put into them. Then there were the dumb motions of the young, such as fleeing in separate directions when there was danger all around. Of course it was the survival instinct to get away, but there was always safety in numbers. Conrad was not even sure why he was dwelling so much on the situation at the moment, but it was something to occupy his constantly brooding mind. Hopefully she had learned from her mistake.
"That was rather stupid of you." he commented, referring to her and the rest of her siblings for splitting up. "Safety in numbers, hasn't anyone ever told you that?" he asked with a scowl. It was surprising that this wolf even wanted to put up with him. As far as the Clearlake wolves were concerned, Conrad was a lost cause, doomed to be the up-tight, sarcastic, rude wolf he was for the remainder of his life on earth. It most definitely killed the chances of him ever having real friends, let alone a mate and family. Of course, no one had ever tried before.

Vacence sat there as she watched him think the short story of her siblings and herself being separated. She wasn't bawling or upset over their separation. No use in crying over split milk, right? She couldn't go back in time and change what happened, so she wasn't able to feel so troubled by it. Besides, if it wasn't for their separation, she highly doubted the group of wolves would of let them explore farther than where they all can find food at, so she'd never gotten to see the places she has, or run into the few nicer wolves out there who'd idle converse with her for the night before she'd move on with her search. But she would admit, it wasn't smart on her part that they separated. Stareye wasn't afraid to admit her mistakes and would take the consequences on without complaints. The past was the past, not much you could really do about it. She listened as the wolf before her called her stupid for it and that there's safe in numbers. "It may have been stupid, but why regret something I can't change. And I have survived this long, without help of another, so that theory can't always be right. I'm not ungrateful about what happened. I just want to find them, simply, find out if they are alive and well or with the moon and her grace. It's not like I am hunting them down to simply make us a little group again. Besides, I do rather prefer this kind of life, than what I would of had with them. Together, I bet we would still be a bunch of scared pups rather than our age."
She finished, enduring the male's attitude. He was certainly rude and rather frank, still, Vacence was a patient wolf and was well able to endure whatever was thrown at her. [/blockquote][/blockquote]

The black and white wolf listened as the female began to contradict his words. Of course. Try telling a female they were wrong and you only got an earful. It happened all the time. It was also a reason Conrad did not like associating with the opposite sex. Say one thing 'wrong' or try telling them what you thought was right and they would go off on some tangent that went on and on and on. They were all the same, loners or pack she-wolves. Conrad figured let her ramble. It was not like he could shut her up anyway. Anything he said would just set her off further.
"Something tells me that if they were still alive, you probably would have found them by now .Estysion is big, but its not that big. If they were alive and wanted to find you as well, I'm pretty sure they would have. So the only logical answers are they are dead and gone or they don't care about you anymore. You would be surprised, just because you were close with a sibling and thought of them as a dear friend does not mean that when the time comes they will be missing you and trying to seek you out."
"Why don't you just give up? Oh wait, don't say anything. I know you're gonna give me something about how that is not how you work, or they really are out there, or some other sad excuse that I've probably heard before. It's been long enough. You need to forget and move on with your life." he said, his yellow optics boring into her. "If you love something, let it go. If it comes back, its yours forever. If it doesn't, well then it was never meant to be."

Stareye was pained as he spoke, saying things like her siblings were mostly likely dead or that they didn't care, but to the female, she knew she accepted those facts already. All she wanted to know was were they alive, were they dead, and to know life had offered them while she had searched for them. Whether or not they wanted to find her themselves was up to them and if they cared or not was their choice as well, as much as of a choice as her choice in making these travels herself, alone. And as stupid as the idea of it, it didn't bother her that there maybe me bad news from it and that she, herself, could be hurting herself, but something in her said she wouldn't stop because of those things. She glanced over at him as she picked up words once more in her quieted voice.
"Perhaps they are dead or perhaps they don't care. But I rather know than know nothing at all. Call it stupid and naive all you want, but it's something I feel is necessary. Neither of us are wrong, whether if you were me and gave up or if I search myself till I'm too old to move. And you don't know if they are searching as well and we've been just going in circles. And yes, I understand after a few years of that if they are alive, that might have given up themselves. Whether I care about those details or not are my concerns."
She finished for a moment before she went on to what he said next. "... Give up? I've thought about it, actually, on several occasions. But giving up on something shows a lack of determination. It's like saying if you were fishing and had not luck on catching something for the day, would you give up on fishing because of one day. I doubt it. Granted that your fishing and my searching is two different things, but I say they are on some level of concept. And move on with life, you probably mean to go find a pack and live my life in it, as it would be better wasted else were and achieve something better.Thing is, I don't want to. Sure one day, I'll have to accept the fact I won't find them and it might be nice to settle down, but I don't think I want to. I do enjoy my travels, as fruitless to my search that it has turned, I have learned a few things, I have befriended a few wolves, and I don't regret it. Not for a moment. I rather not be tied down by a life I don't exactly want, even if this one has turn up things I don't want to know. And we both have our own opinions, so whether you like what I just said or not, I don't care, because that's my honest opinion myself." She finished as she glared at him. It wasn't that she blamed him, since he was one to only know pack life, she was different and only knew life as she has it now. She knew he didn't exactly say that last part, but that was some wolves in packs thought that their lives were better served protect a large family than taking their own time to look up and understand things instead of others telling what they should know. But still, it was obvious that she hadn't given up by now that she wasn't going to stop anytime soon.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

What the motivated individual she was. Some wolves just had way too much optimism in their lives. It was almost sickening. There was nothing happy or hopeful about the world they were living in. As far as Conrad was concerned it was the closest thing to Hell on Earth. By the Moon he would call her naive and stupid. It was her childish way of thinking that drove her to do these things. What a waste of a life. Who would want to spend their life searching for lost family who were probably as far away as the Moon, if not already with the Moon in their death. Then again she was doing something with the time that most spent on even more pointless things than looking for family that was long gone.
"Maybe if you stop trying so hard you'll find what you're looking for." he offered. His mother often told him that. Surprisingly enough she was right. There were things, and wolves, he had sought out through the journey called life that were only found when he quit his desperate searching. Of course he had never wanted these things as badly as this she-wolf seemed to. Being dedicated was a good hting, but sometimes there was such a thing as being too dedicated.
"Believe me, you don't want a pack." he said with a bitter laugh. "Being alone is better than living a pack life. Hell, being alone is better than anything. I unfortunately joined a pack just for the sake of having a safe place to sleep at night. How wrong I was to do that. The world is a cruel, cruel place. To you, to me, to everyone living in it. By the Moon you should cherish this time you have alone. What am I saying though? It is quite possible to live in a pack and still totally be alone." he said, looking off into the distance.
He had grown up in his pack, but he was forever alone. With all the other wolves around him, no one talked to him. Which was okay with Conrad. After what wolves had done to him and how he saw what the world really could be like, there were days when he was overjoyed with the fact that he was a=just something that blended into the background, not noticed by anyone of importance. It was better that way.
